Character Name: Deborah Shearer Character Race: Human Character Gender: Female Rank Type: Whatever the CO thinks is appropriate Character Appearance: Deborah has a slim figure, of average height, with long sandy-brown hair that she generally keeps pinned back in a single ponytail, mostly in order to keep it out of her way while on-shift. She has gold-brown eyes, a face with thin, somewhat angled features. Her arms, chest, and legs look more like they belong on a Barbie doll than they do on an engineer, and she is often underestimated because of her slight appearance. Character Personality: Deborah tends to be a bit shy, given her background, and tries to dive into her work, perhaps to compensate. She feels as though the machines she works with are more her friends than other humans are. This of course tends to lead to a repeating loop...she feels cold and distant around others, they sense this and react to it, and she therefore gets the cold and distant vibe from others, which reinforces her own cold and distant... Because of this, Deborah has remained single, and alone...and this situation may become unbearable as time goes on. Character Background: Deborah was born on Earth, but her parents moved to Andor when she was an infant to "start over" when their merchant business ran into trouble. Unfortunately, the same predators who harassed the family on Earth came after them on Andor, where the laws were a bit lax on the subject. When her father was killed, Deborah's mother went into hiding, and sent Deborah back to Earth, where she was placed in foster care. All of this made its mark on the young girl, who felt as though anyone she loved had or would abandon her. This continued through her early life. School was made of of situations that would change, friends that would eventually leave, and so on. Deborah excelled in technical classes and was placed in engineering classes late in high school and into college. She contined to show an affinity for engineering science, astronomy, astrophysics...all the while failing in the social skills areas of life. Deborah was accepted into Starfleet almost immediately after she graduated...this was only delayed by the news that her mother had died...once again, another person who abandoned her. While she has risen through the ranks to the position she now holds, she has been noted more than once for being very cold, more interested in the engines or computers than anyone else. Service Record: 2371 :: Graduates from Starfleet Academy, assigned to USS Albany as an Ensign. 2376 :: After serving through the Dominion War, and being promoted to Lieutenant, Deborah is transferred to the USS Mirai. 2379 :: Becomes Chief Engineer on the USS Scorpion. 2385 :: USS Scorpion decommissioned. Deborah transfers to USS Gemini. 2387 :: Emergency vacancy forces Starfleet to promote Deborah to Commander and assign her to command USS Pioneer. 2388 :: Deborah is promoted to Captain. Sample Post: As the alert lighting flashed an urgent red, Deborah got to her feet and slapped at the computer terminal on her desk. "Shearer here," she said coldly. "What's the story?" "There's been a malfunction in the antimatter injector system," came the reply. "It's stuck open, and we've had to increase the matter flow..." "That won't last long," Deborah stated. "You've got until the matter flow reaches maximum, and after that, we either explode, rip apart, or keep at our top sped until we exhaust our reserves...none of those are a pleasant thought." "Yes ma'am," the engineer replied. "Has the Captain called in yet?" "Not yet, but you can bet he will." "Yes, he will," Deborah said. "Alright, you go to the Bridge and coordinate with them. I'll go to the injector control room and see if I can't get things straightened out manually." "Yes ma'am," came the reply. "Tell them to be ready to either vent the warp systems, or drop the core." "Isn't that a bit extreme?" The engineer asked. "It might come to a choice between that and our other three options, and the Captain will need all of them on the table." ~FIN~
